Vignette: Autumn Night

About the vignette

This is a little sketch-vignette I wrote the October before last, upon stepping outside to a chilly autumn evening, filled with the smells of burning fireplaces and a fresh breeze that carried a hint of pine; and it made me think of times I had spent camping high in the mountains among evergreen trees, etc., and I thought to write a bit about the mood it recalled by attempting to describe the sensation of experiencing the onset of fall, as the change of seasons is felt more keenly at dusk amid the shortening days. Thanks for reading!

Autumn Night vignette

The autumn night breeze 'twas, a brisk-chilled air filled with a crisp fresh of wizened old cedar, sagebrush resin, and burnt-maple sweet of brick-stove wood smoke, like the voluminous stinging haze of bright campfires in high evergreens, cast away into the wooded dark, where clear-climed moonlight glistens upon bedded snow that quietly hides among long shadows stretched beneath weary mountain pines.

Inside, a warm glow of home's respite from the nip of early winter wind nestles into blankets and thick-woolen sweaters the smell of roast pumpkin-spice and stone-baked loaves of buttermilk bread to welcome laden folk in from the lonely eve.

Yes it did get me all buzzed up! So much so that I lit an incense after reading. Jasmine - no other scent available! :D

Ya, this vignette is really vivid and awesomely poetic. I agree with Cris, incense all the way.
